Scranton was founded in 1907 along the Milwaukee Road transcontinental rail line known as the Pacific Extension. It was named after Scranton, Pennsylvania because, like that city, it was located within a region of coal mining.
Scranton had a mixed economic and social base almost from the outset, for it not only has served as an agricultural trade center but also has been a center for coal mining activity; first shaft mining and later open-pit mining
Today our city is a rural agri-center with friendly residents, industrious business owners and many volunteers that contribute to our thriving community.
