Each year the North Dakota EMS Association recognizes those individuals who have made significant contributions to the provision, development and improvement to local, regional and state prehospital care. In 2023 we are honored to present the North Dakota ALS Provider of the Year to Lindsey Schaaf.

Lindsey has served as a dedicated member of the Bowman Ambulance Service Inc. for over 20 years. She is dedicated to the squad’s training and education, as she lines up their education refresher weekend with speakers and providers that help the members continue to learn and grown as a squad and individually. She is continually passing on learning opportunities to all squad members of classes online, articles she’s read that help to educate us on new and evolving methods and treatments.

Lindsey also leads the “Teen Dilemma Course” for Bowman and surrounding schools, along with various other educational events held at the school. She also helps with educating the community at community events….Stop the Bleed, CPR, blood pressure checks. Besides working for the ambulance service during the week and weekends, she is a well-known figure in the community. All those that have had the chance to have her as an educator or provider would agree she is well deserving of this award.

When on a call, Lindsey makes a point to make sure the patient is aware of what is going on, what the crew members are doing and why they are doing it. She also takes the time to help the patient’s family members or friends know what to expect and what events are taking place. Lindsey is an amazing partner for her crew members to work with; she accepts opinions and listens to her crew members during stressful times. Lindsey is very aware of mental health, job burn out, and stress involved in the line of EMS work. She goes above and beyond watching out for her fellow squad members and making sure they are doing okay.

The North Dakota ALS EMS Provider of the Year is a member of the North Dakota EMS Association who has selflessly devoted a tremendous amount of personal time to the local and state provision, development and improvement of prehospital care, as well as EMS education in their community.
