The 10th annual annual Family Fun Fair went off without a hitch Thursday (April 20), drawing hundreds of families from Bowman County and the surrounding area for some indoor fun, food, door prizes and a chance to find out about some local services that agencies offer.

The event was held by the Southwest Dakota Human Service Zone as part of the observation of April as the National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. It is designed to help celebrate children and families having some fun while also getting some information about some of the resources that are available.

Inside the pavilion, there were two inflatable jump houses set up, along with a large display of firefighting equipment, informational booths and food, drinks and snacks in the kitchen area and even a cake walk for those children with a sweet tooth.

Bowman Fire Department had a strong presence in the building, with not only equipment displays, but souvenir hats and water bottles that they would hand out.

In addition, some of the children got a chance to try out wearing some of the actual firefighter’s equipment – including the boots, helmets and full uniform gear. Some even competed against others to see how quickly they could put on all the gear then go to the southern end of the building and grab one of the fire hoses laid out on the floor, then race back.

Among the agency that set up booths in the building were the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center, WIC North Dakota (Women, Infants and Children) – a special supplemental nutritional program, the Southwestern District Public Health Unit, the Southwest Healthcare Services We Care program among others.

The event included the following donors and sponsors: Dakota Community Bank, SW District Public Health, Bronsons Marketplace, Bowman Parks and Recreation, Bowman County Fair Board, Bounce Right Rentals, MDU (Montana Dakota Utilities), Dakota Western Bank, Brosz Engineering, Scranton Equity, Farm Credit, SW Agriculture, Frontier Travel Center, West Plains, Dakota Dental, Prairie Dental, Bowman County School Teachers and Classic Beauty Salon.
