09 Nov First snow of the season
Bowman and Slope counties got a lot of precipitation last week, including the first snow of the season.
It not only rained, but a day later it was snowing.
An observer in Bowman reported that more than a halfinch of rain fell Oct. 24, then a little more for the next few days. Four-hundredths of an inch was reported in Bowman Oct. 25th.
Then a cold front from Canada really hit the region.
According to meteorologist Zach Hargrove, the Bowman area was hit with more than six inches of snow during the Thursday-Friday blizzard that hit the state.
The National Weather Service office in Bismarck has received reports that approximately 6.5 inches fell during the Wednesday Thursday storm in the Bowman area.
“On the 26th and the 27th, 6.5 inches of snow fell. Through the rest of the weekend, there were just traces — nothing measurable,” the meteorologist said Monday.
It wasn’t the only recent precipitation in the southwestern part of the state. A storm front hit Bowman just before the snow and deposited.
There is a small chance for light snow chances through the end of the week. “It is not looking like anything major. Maybe Thursday night and Friday morning, there could be some light snow shower activity.
“But, it doesn’t look like anything major.”
Instead, there is a warming trend, he added. “It should be in the mid-40s Friday and into the weekend. We are hoping for a little more substantial warmup next week,” Hargrove added.
Technically, the snow season starts July 1. “But, usually, we see the first snows in October,” he said.
