Cities

Welcome

Bowman County is comprised of four towns: Rhame, Scranton, Gascoyne, and Bowman. In the SW corner of the state it is a regional commerce center which draws from North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. Explore what our cities have to offer.

We are a community of progressive, generous, friendly, and supportive people with a diversely aged population.

First called Fischbein, after one of the first residents, it was later changed to Gascoyne on March 25, 1908.

At an elevation of 3,192 feet Rhame is the highest of all cities in ND and was named for Mitchell Davison Rhame, a district engineer for the railroad.

Scranton was founded in 1907 and named after Scranton, Pennsylvania because, like that city, it was located within a region of coal mining.
