Bowman County was recognized on October 12 in West Fargo as a recipient of the Main Street Excellence Award. The award was in recognition of three projects lead by Bowman County Development Corporation (BCDC): The Main Street Garden, Mainspace, and Festival of Lights.

Main Street Garden

The Main Street Garden is a garden and park space that provides free fresh and locally grown produce that was started in 2020. In 2021, BCDC received a $10,000 AARP Community Challenge grant. They were one of only 244 grantees selected from across the USA. The grant, along with additional volunteers and sponsors, will make way for major improvements to the lot including groundwork, seating, shade, and more.

Mainspace

Mainspace brings a modern workspace and education opportunities to numerous local businesses and the region. Mainspace was created in 2019 with a mission to create an impact and to ignite growth, this space is used to generate new ideas, bring knowledge, and invite creativity.

Festival of Lights​

Festival of Lights is an annual park lighting and community celebration event that includes over 30 businesses, churches, and organizations that make it possible.  At the count of 3-2-1 Bowman City Park has lit with cheer every year since 2018 with hundreds of people in attendance. Over 500 wonderfully crafted luminaries lined the path as people enjoyed caramel corn and hot chocolate and listened to live music by Saxxy Brass and carolers.

Doug Burgum said. “Creating healthy, vibrant communities with smart, efficient infrastructure that will attract and retain a 21st century workforce requires a team effort, and these awards demonstrate the success we can achieve as a state when we work as one.”

The Main Street Awards are a collaborative effort of the Office of Governor and Commerce. North Dakota’s Main Street Initiative is a shared vision of healthy, vibrant communities that, through fiscally responsible planning, attract the talent needed to support our state’s growing economy. The Main Street Awards honor communities that show excellence in these principles by actively working to enhance the quality of life for their residents, past and future.

The Main Street Excellence award recognizes communities whose efforts embody all three pillars of the Main Street Initiative and showcase innovative efforts to enhance the livability, health and attractiveness of the community while demonstrating fiscally-sound planning and sustainability.
