As the holiday season nears, wish lists are made and filled. The warm feeling of giving was certainly in the air as Tot Lot Childcare celebrated its recent grand opening and thanked the generous donors who made it all possible, Joyce and Kenneth Luff of Luff Exploration Co.
That warmness of giving was felt as a quilt that Joyce Luff made was hung on the wall to put the finishing touch on the building.
Tot Lot Childcare celebrated their grand opening on Dec. 7th in the new center, now licensed for more than double their previous capacity. Tot Lot Childcare Inc. was established in March of 2001 as a non-profit community owned childcare facility, and until the recent move was operating in a trailer house.
The project began almost three years ago when a group of parents got together to brainstorm on how to fund and find a larger facility. In the meantime a donor approached the Tot Lot and the community rallied.
Southwest Healthcare donated the lot for the facility and the design process began with the help of community volunteers who made up the building committee; Tony Dulestki, Jacob Kubela, Lynn Brackel, John Burke, Cal Meschke, and Stephanie Holder. The Bowman Development Corporation was an instrumental collaborator on the project.
Tot Lot is run by a board of volunteers including President Amy Burke, Treasurer Stephanie Holder and Secretary Andrea. Other board members include Val Kunze and Emily Halleen with Dee Dobitz as the Center Director.
Tot Lot Childcare would like to thank everyone who donated time, money and talents to the building project, including Joyce and Ken Luff and the employees of Luff Exploration who donated the building, Richard and Julia George of Luff Exploration who donated the playground equipment, and everyone who supported fundraisers or made donations directly to the Tot Lot.
Only a few small projects remain to be finished since Tot Lot's opening. The landscape and installation of additional playground equipment will be completed in the spring.
