Seats on the Bowman City Commission will be up for grabs in this year’s primary election as terms for three commissioners will expire.

President Lyn James and Commissioners Chuck Whitney and Mike Sondeland will have their positions, each a four-year term, on the June 14 ballot.

According to Bowman City Auditor Peggy Allen, no candidates have filed petitions to be on the ballot. Though, she said, the deadline to do so is 4 p.m. April 11.

The three incumbents will decide if they want to run for re-election, but nothing has yet been announced.

Any resident of the city of Bowman wanting to be placed on the ballot as a candidate is required to obtain 35 valid signatures on a petition; 61 signatures for the position of president.

There also are three spots available on the Bowman City Park and Recreation Board, with the four-year terms of Amy Smyle and Dan Peterson ending.

Tana Smolnikar chose to vacate her unexpired term, leaving a third spot, a two-year term, needing to be filled.

Candidates for any city positions need to reside in city limits, be a resident of the city for at least nine months, not be in default with the city and obtain valid signatures only from Bowman residents.
